Pidcock Rules Out CX Return this Season

Tom Pidcock has indicated that he will not return to cyclocross racing this winter, extending his absence from the discipline that helped establish him as one of Britain’s most versatile riders.

The 2022 cyclocross world champion has focused increasingly on road and mountain-bike racing in recent seasons, and says the demands of a full winter campaign no longer fit easily alongside those ambitions.

“It is indeed still a bit early for that question. But no, I don’t think I’ll be racing cyclocross this winter,” Pidcock said. Reflecting on the end of his road season, he added: “It seemed nice to race again. But after I had ridden my last road race, I thought: ‘Nah, maybe not. It’s just too much.’”

Pidcock has left the door open to a future comeback, particularly if cyclocross were ever added to the Winter Olympics. “If cyclocross gets a spot at the Games, then I do think I will race again,” he said.

For now, though, British fans will have to wait to see one of the sport’s most naturally gifted cross riders back on the start line.
