Giel Lejeune has taken an early-season victory at the Brumath Bike Festival C1 in France, giving the 18-year-old an immediate boost as he steps into the Under-23 ranks.
The Belgian came into the new cyclocross season after an outstanding final junior campaign, which included bronze at the World Championships in Hulst. He has also recently joined the Alpecin–Premier Tech Development Team, signing with the Roodhooft organisation in September.
Victory at Brumath is therefore a notable early result as Lejeune begins racing against older and more experienced opposition.
His move to Alpecin–Premier Tech puts him into one of cyclocross’s strongest development structures, and today’s win will only increase interest in how quickly he can make the transition from junior racing.
Lejeune had already shown good form last weekend, finishing third at the Kleeberg Cross C2, making the Brumath success another encouraging step at the start of his first U23 winter.
